Dr Richard C. Woolfson
Grandparents can add a great deal to your family life by providing help, support and guidance, as well as offering another loving, emotional relationship to your growing child. They also provide a sense of continuity between the past and the present.
Despite that, conflict can arise – for example, when Grandma thinks she knows better than you how you should raise your child and tells you directly what you’re doing wrong. Or when she subversively undermines your discipline by sneaking sweets to your child as a reward for your cutie finishing his plate of food.
You may feel they’re annoying sometimes, that they interfere too much and that they even deliberately try to buy their grandchild’s love. This can cause tension.
